Avoriaz is its own independent resort as well as being part of the major Portes du Soleil region of over 12 resorts.

This means there are 2 different lift passes:

Avoriaz only: Gains access to Avoriaz resort and lifts only. This is great for beginners and those learning the ropes on the slopes.

Full Portes du Soleil: Gains access to the full 12 resorts over the PDS region of France and Switzerland. This means you have access to all lifts in the area around Avoriaz and beyond.

If you would like to upgrade your lift pass, you can do so at the lift pass office in the centre of the resort and will only need to pay the difference.

LIFT OPENING AND CLOSING TIMES

The general opening times of lifts around Avoriaz are from 8:30 - 16:30.

MOUNTAIN ETIQUETTE

https://pistexcode.org/

Check out this website for full safety measures on the mountain.

Stay in control

If you decide to ski or snowboard fast, it is important that you have sufficient control, so that you do not cause any situations that might harm yourself, or someone else. This includes not skiing / snowboarding whilst under the influence of alcohol.

Skier or boarders in front of you have priority

Skiers moving behind (above) must keep sufficient distance between themselves and the other skier or snowboarder so that the person in front has plenty of space to make all of their movements freely.

Don’t stop in the middle of the mountain

It is recommended to stop on the side of the slope, in places that are visible from above. Most importantly, try not to sit down in blind spots; these are usually places where the slope suddenly gets steeper, and people higher up the hill will have a hard time spotting what is below them.

Read the signs

The most common and well-known signs are black, red, or green. These colours indicate the difficulty of the slope, with black being the most difficult and green being the least challenging.

Some other signs will show directions or give warnings of danger or closure. A sign closing a piste, just like one pointing out danger, must be firmly observed.

Wait in the queue

Jumping the queue at chairlifts is frowned upon. Plan your lunch on a different time than most, and you will find smaller lift lines!

Take a lesson if you are a beginner

It is advised to take a lesson if you are still a beginner or first timer. It will make your holiday a more pleasant experience and get you prepared for the slopes! You can add lessons through manage booking before the 4th March.

Respect others

Remember that not everyone might be as comfortable as you are on the slopes. With a mix of beginners, right through to advanced levels out on the mountain, it’s important to give all skiers and snowboarders their space, so that everyone comes back from the slopes with a smile on their face!

Respect the mountain

The mountain has feelings too! Be respectful and don’t leave rubbish on the slopes. The only thing you should leave behind on the mountain are the fresh tracks you made!

Artboard 1 copy 22.png

FOOD AND DRINK

Supermarkets

There are 3 main supermarkets in the resort to buy groceries. Please check the Snowboxx map for locations.

Opening times vary but on average open at 8am and close at 8pm.

They have a wide variety of fruit, veg, meat, fish, wine, beer and everything in between

There is 1 tabac store which is located opposite the Tourist Office, but you can also purchase tobacco in certain bars.

Restaurants and bars

There are over 30 restaurants and bars to enjoy lunch and dinner at in resort

You can read more about each one here: https://www.avoriaz.com/en/winter/practical-information/shops-and-services/restaurants

We recommend you book in advance to ensure you get a space as resort can get very busy in the Snowboxx week

Tips for vegans

We have to be honest, the resort seems to be very behind on the vegan front! However, we managed to find a couple of restaurants that had some vegan options.

These were:

Globetrotter: Vegetable poke bowl option

La boule de neige: salad, vegetarian burger, vegetarian lasagne

Mountain Pizz'Burg: Can make any pizza without cheese!

Fontaine Blanche: Tofu Bowl

Cafe fantastic: Veggie burgers and salads.

Chapka: Veggie burgers and salads

Le Grand Cafe: Veggie Burgers and Salads

We found a variety of vegan milks, vegan yoghurts, vegan snacks, fresh fruit and vegetables in the supermarkets
