Travel

> Before you travel

Check your passport expiry date

Your passport should be valid for at least three months from the date of entry into France. If your passport expires before the end of June 2026 you need to get a new one asap!

Get travel insurance

We highly advise that you book travel insurance as any healthcare costs abroad can be expensive if you do not have insurance. Make sure it covers winter sports.

Check your roaming plan

France may not be included in your provider’s free roaming, and data charges can be high. An eSIM from companies like Trip.com or Nomad can be a good solution.

Packing essentials
  • Passport: We are going abroad, and you’ll need a photo ID to collect your wristband and lift passes.
  • Snowboxx e-ticket: Contains the QR code needed to collect your wristband and lift passes. Will be emailed to you 3-5 days before the event.
  • Ski clothing: jacket, salopettes, thermals, snow boots, ski socks, goggles, sunglasses, gloves, helmet (hire before March 5th if needed.
  • Festival outfits + fancy dress: The theme this year is Space Cowboy!
  • EU adapter, phone charger & power bank
  • Ski/snowboard locks
Make sure each person in your booking has a correct, unique email address (no duplicates) or they won’t receive their e-tickets.
MANAGE BOOKING
Spending money

The festival bars are cashless and you will be able to pay with your wristband.

Bring your cards for restaurants and shops in town and cash to cover the security deposit of your accommodation plus the usual pocket money. There are a couple ATMs at the resort.
ADD CREDIT TO YOUR WRISTBANDADD CREDIT TO
YOUR WRISTBAND
Hotel security deposit

As with any other holiday accommodation, a security deposit of €150–€250 per person may be required at check-in (higher for premium accommodations). If in doubt, check your booking confirmation.

Deposits are held on a credit card for the duration of the festival. Debit card or cash will not be accepted.

This amount will be refunded on the grounds that your accommodation is left just as found, and that includes leaving the accommodation clean - refer to the check-out checklist on the accommodation section below.

Some accommodations are able to arrange the deposit payment in advance to speed up your check in process. If your accommodation offers this option, you will receive an email with a payment link - if you doubt whether the link is legit, check with us on info@snowboxx.com

If your transfer leaves early, arrange your refund with the accommodation the day before - this is your responsibility, and we can't collect it for you.

Changes to your booking

Please note the following deadlines:

21st Feb – Last day for date changes
10th March – Last day for name changes

No changes can be made after these dates.

> In-resort transport: Snow taxis and baggage pick up

The resort is completely pedestrianised. There are no cars or taxis but you can get a snowcat or a horse & cart to move around if you don’t fancy walking on snow.Your transfer will drop you at the resort arrivals centre. Depending on the location of your apartment you may want to get one of these to carry you or your luggage to your accommodation.

Arriving in resort

Snow taxis can be pre booked for your luggage and/or yourself via the customer portal, or bought on site at the arrivals centre (expect queues).

If you pre-book it, simply collect your vouchers from the Snowboxx team at the arrivals centre.Snow taxis do not go to Amara or Saskia residences as they are a very short walking distance to the arrivals centre. If you fancy a ride on a horse & cart you can book them there directly - starting at €15.

Departing resort

If you’ve pre-booked baggage pick-up or a Snow Taxi, your pick-up time and location will be on your e-ticket - 1 hour before departure from a central point near your accommodation.

If you haven’t pre-booked a Snow Taxi for departure, you can book one at the Snowboxx customer service desk until 19:00 on Tuesday (Saturday departures only).

To book transport during the week, visit the Help Desk at the Tourist Office (where you collected your wristband). Outside Help Desk hours, call the resort arrival centre on +33 (0) 450 740 155. Horses and carts run during the day; snowcats operate overnight.

> Luggage Storage

The resort has their own luggage storage facility at the arrival centre, which customers can use to store their luggage before check in, for a small fee.

> Driving to the resort

If you are planning to drive we advise you to book your parking spot in advance here to guarantee availability. The outdoor car park is €80 per week and the indoor car park is €100 per week. In bad weather conditions you will need snow chains or snow tyres to be allowed to drive up to the resort. Please check local weather conditions in advance before driving to the event. More info on the Avoriaz 'Getting Here' page.

Accommodation

> Checking in

Check in / out times
Check in: 17:00 PM
Check out: 09:30 AM
Check in location

Pay attention here - the check in location and the location of your accommodation are usually two different places. In most cases, you’ll need to collect your keys from the accommodation agency before going to your apartment. These locations will be shown on your e-ticket - you will get this via email in a few days before the event.

These locations will be shown on your e-ticket - you will get this via email a couple days before the event.

Check in process

Once you know where your check-in location is, send one or two people - no need for the whole group to go there. These people will need to:
  1. Pay the damage deposit - one person will need to swipe their physical credit card (not virtual cards)
  2. Pay for the Tourist Tax - Only by cash
  3. Fill in the Police Fiche Form
The average deposit is between €150 - €250 per person. This amount will be refunded on the grounds that your accommodation is left just as found, and that includes leaving the accommodation clean - more on this below. If you spot any damage upon arrival, please take photos or videos to document it.

The Tourist Tax is required to pay on check in. It’s just €1 - €2 per person per night and one person in the group must pay it for all.

Last but not least, each individual is required by French law to fill in a Police Fiche form before checking in. To speed up your check in progress we suggest doing this in advance. Download the form here.

> Checking out

Check out process

Keys should be returned to where you collected them from by 10:00am on your day of check out.

If you are leaving the before it’s open, there should be a drop box to put your keys in. If unsure of the location please check with your accommodation supplier prior to your departure day.

Lost key charges start at €55 depending on your accommodation (a lot more expensive for premium chalets) so please ensure you return all keys to the correct location.

Final Cleaning

Your apartment will need to be cleaned before you depart, otherwise the accommodation suppliers will charge you a substantial cleaning fee. If you do not want to clean your room please speak to your accommodation reception in advance to book a final clean - charges are a lot cheaper in advance than the cost of the fines which will come out of your accommodation deposit.

Check-out checklist
  • Empty bins & take to large communal bins located outside your residence
  • Strip beds and gather all laundry in one pile
  • Clean all crockery, cutlery & pots/pans
  • Empty & clean dishwasher
  • Hoover, sweep & mop all floors
  • Wipe all kitchen & bathroom surfaces and mirrors
  • Return the keys to reception or the accommodation agency
A note on deposit refunds

When there have been no deductions, deposits usually take 10-14 days to return to your bank.

With some banks, the money may be temporarily secured but never actually debited. In such cases, clients often assume that the money is still blocked because they do not see a credit come in after their stay, but this is not always the case.

The majority of enquiries they receive about deposits turn out to be such cases where the money never actually left the client's account. However, if you have a deduction with no subsequent credit, we advise you to contact your bank directly.

Before reaching out to our team, we first recommend that you request from your bank a mini or full statement from the start of the event until 1 week after the event, showing any deductions that have been made. Our accommodation partners require this proof before investigating any cases.

> Reception & Accommodation Office opening times

Please see below for reception and accommodation agencies opening times.

If you arrive after an accommodation agency is shut, you will need to collect keys from the Arrivals Centre. You will need to visit your accommodation agency on the following day to pay your tourist tax & deposit. Failure to do so may result in you being asked to leave your accommodation and you may have your festival wristbands removed. Not fun!

Some good news though, bed linen & towels are included in all Snowboxx bookings, these should be in your apartment on arrival.

> Etiquette

Don’t litter this beautiful resort

Please help maintain the beauty of the mountain views by not leaving litter behind. Use the bins provided and dispose of cigarette butts responsibly.

Recycle your trash

Separate your waste into General Waste, Cardboard, Glass Bottles, and Plastic. Use the large round bins near the entrance of your accommodation to dispose of these items properly.

The resort rubbish trucks collect bins on Wednesdays and Saturdays. To prevent them from overflowing, it's advisable to empty your bins mid-week.

Respect the locals

Show respect for the local community who live in and take care of the resort while we enjoy our time in Avoriaz.

Keep noise levels low between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., as many families are also enjoying their holidays. Repeated noise complaints may result in eviction from the resort.

SKIING

> The resort

Avoriaz is its own independent resort as well as being part of the major Portes du Soleil region of over 12 resorts.

This means there are 2 different lift passes:
  • Avoriaz only: Gives you access to Avoriaz resort and lifts only. This is great for beginners and those learning the ropes on the slopes.
  • Full Portes du Soleil: Gives you access to the full 12 resorts over the PDS region across France and Switzerland. Slope paradise!
If you would like to upgrade your lift pass, you can do so at the lift pass office in the centre of the resort and will only need to pay the difference.

Piste map

You can pick up a physical piste map in the resort at the tourist office or download the official Avoriaz app to have it on your phone.

Lift opening times & last lift

The general opening times of lifts around Avoriaz are from 8:30 - 16:30.

Please check times and closures when accessing the slopes for the day. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to get to back to Avoriaz, especially if you venture into the Swiss sector.

> Mountain etiquette

No one wants to get injured or have a bad time in the mountains.

Everyone comes with the best intentions, some leave with an injury.

Whether you are a newbie or a seasoned skier, we recommend taking a look at https://pistexcode.org/ to avoid being one of them.

Here are the basics:
  • The person in front of you always has priority
  • Don’t stop in the middle of the mountain
  • Look out for each other out there, not everyone is as comfortable as you may be
  • Stay in control - don’t push yourself out of your comfort zone
  • If you want to take it further, take lessons - there are instructors for all levels
Drinking and skiing is dangerous, and you may not be covered by your insurance if you injure yourself.

Please look after yourself and your friends and don't risk ruining the rest of your ski trip by skiing while drunk. Our security may temporarily confiscate your skis or snowboard if they think you are a risk to yourself.michael@crevasseclothing.com

Getting Around

> Food & drink

Supermarkets

There are 3 main supermarkets in the resort to buy groceries - check the Snowboxx map for locations. Opening times vary but on average are 8am - 8pm.

Restaurants and bars

There are over 30 restaurants on site. You can check them here.

We recommend making dinner reservations in advance as the resort will be very busy during the Snowboxx week.

Tips for vegetarians & vegans

We have to be honest, the resort is a little behind on the vegan front. However, we managed to find some options:
  • Globetrotter: veggie poke bowl option
  • La boule de neige: salad, vegetarian burger, vegetarian lasagne
  • Fontaine Blanche: Tofu Bowl
  • Mountain Pizz'Burg: Can make any pizza without cheese!
  • Cafe fantastic: Veggie burgers and salads.
  • Chapka: Veggie burgers and salads
  • Trappeurs: Wok fried veggie bowl
If you prefer cooking your own, supermarkets stock a variety of vegan milks, vegan yoghurts, vegan snacks, fresh fruit and vegetables.

> Pharmacy & Medical

Pharmacy

Located in downtown Avoriaz by WhyNot, opens every day from 9am to 7.30pm.

Medical centre

The medical centre is open between 09:00 - 19:00. Appointments can be made on Doctolib.fr

> Off piste activities

There is a wide range of activities available on site, from Aquariaz indoor water park and spas to snowmobiling, dog sledding and a cinema.

You can check out all these activities and how to book at the Avoriaz website here.

> Getting to and from Morzine

The Prodains cable car runs from the small hamlet of Les Prodains, around 5 kilometres from Morzine, up to the resort of Avoriaz, providing the main access into town. It takes just under 5 minutes to reach the top.

The Prodains lift will be open later than usual for the week.

Here are the updated prodain lift opening times for the Snowboxx week:
  • Saturday 14th - 07:00 - 00:00
  • Sunday 15th  - Thursday 20th - 07:00 - 00:30
  • Friday 20th - 07:00 - 00:00
Skiing back to Morzine after the piste is closed is incredibly dangerous. There are cliffs, piste bashers, a risk of avalanche and freezing temperatures. Please don't risk your safety, do not attempt to ski the route to Morzine once the piste is closed.

Local taxis

There are plenty of local taxi companies that operate in the area, although it’s important to note that they always get booked up in advance.

This includes transportation from the bottom of Prodains lift to Morzine late at night, or Avoriaz to Morzine.
A list of local taxi suppliers can be found here.

Driving

If you are planning to drive, there is parking at the lift ticket office at Prodains. Details on the parking and its costs can be found here.

Public transport

There is a public bus service that runs between Morzine and Prodains during the day. The routes and the timetable can be downloaded here.

Useful contacts

Here is a list of contact numbers you may find useful throughout your time at Snowboxx:
